WELCOME! I'M KITSON, A CHILDREN'S BOOK AUTHOR AND WRITER IN WASHINGTON, DC.

I've been writing in one form or another pretty much my whole life. When I was a kid, I loved writing letters and post cards to aunts, uncles and cousins who lived far away. Today, most of my writing life is focused on children's books and magazine articles. And a lot of email!

Two things have been a constant throughout my life: my love of animals and a desire to share stories, especially with children. I write non-fiction books and articles for children on subjects from amazing animals like horses, lions, giant pandas, wolves and tigers to seals, sled dogs and squirrels, plus some pretty incredible kids, too!  I've also written middle grade novels for the Boys Camp Books series.

I'm a member of the Children's Book Guild of Washington and The Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators.

I write non-fiction books for children for the National Geographic Society.

I have written for lots of fun magazines like National Geographic KidsAmerican Girl and Young Rider. I also wrote articles for the Washington Post's KidsPost page and have contributed to the Washington Post Magazine. I have also contributed stories to Dressage Today magazine, Chronicle of the Horse, The USEF's Equestrian magazine.

My horses, Taff and Chaps, live nearby in Potomac, Maryland. If only they could live in my front yard! I keep a picture of them in the kitchen window so they’re always nearby.
